- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onions over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef and onions with the cream of mushroom soup, salt, and pepper.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
- Top with the shredded cheese and arrange the tater tots on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.

Got leftovers? This casserole keeps well in the fridge for up to 3–4 days. For freezing, cool completely before sealing. Reheat in the oven until warm and crispy. Variations include making it vegan with plant-based crumbles and dairy-free soup and cheese. Add spices or jalapeños for extra kick.
