Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt together.
  3. Add the softened butter and vanilla, and mix until creamy.
  4. Beat in the egg until fully incorporated.
  5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut out shapes, with half having an 'opening' for a classic Linzer look.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges turn golden.
  3. Let them cool, spread jam on the bases, and top with the cut-out cookies.
  4. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
