Ingredients
  

For the marinade
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil plus extra for cooking
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
For the sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
For the stir-fry
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil.
  2. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
Cooking Onions
  1. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan and set aside.
Searing Beef
  1. In the same pan, heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil over high heat.
  2. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.
Making Sauce
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch.
  2. Pour the sauce over the beef and let simmer until it thickens.
Combine & Serve
  1. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to combine.
  2. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Tips: Cut the beef against the grain for juicier bites. Swap in chicken or tofu for a delicious twist. Add colorful veggies like bell peppers or broccoli for extra crunch. Use low-sodium soy sauce if watching sodium intake.
