Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy.
  4. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls, then roll the balls in powdered sugar until well coated.
  2. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  3. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges look set and the tops are crinkled.
  4. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, chill the dough longer if possible and use a cookie scoop for uniform sizes. You can substitute the red food coloring for another color to match your theme. Add chocolate chips for extra richness!
