Ingredients

Bread Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 head garlic to be roasted
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and roast the garlic head wrapped in foil for 30-35 minutes until soft.
  2. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5-10 minutes until it’s foamy.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and salt together.
  4. Make a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture along with the roasted garlic (squeeze out the cloves).
  5. Stir until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and fold in the Parmesan cheese.
  8. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a prepared baking pan; let it rise again for 30-60 minutes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Let cool slightly before slicing and enjoy.

Notes

This bread is best enjoyed fresh; if you have leftovers, store in an airtight bag for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage. When ready to eat, reheat in the oven.
