Ingredients
  

For the patties
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • to taste Salt and pepper
For cooking and gravy
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For frying the patties
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons flour For thickening the gravy
For serving
  • Creamy mashed potatoes To serve with the Salisbury steak

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and form into patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Cooking the Gravy
  1. In the same skillet, add mushrooms and sauté until softened.
  2. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to combine. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until the gravy thickens.
  3. Return the patties to the skillet, covering them with the gravy. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
Serving
  1. Serve the Salisbury steak with creamy mashed potatoes.

Notes

For extra flavor, mix in some garlic powder or your favorite spice blend to the beef mixture. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2-3 months.
