  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced You can use regular or sweet potatoes.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Feel free to substitute with a plant-based option for a vegan version.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar is preferred, but any melting cheese works.
  • 1 onion, chopped Adding more onions enhances flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a pan, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion until cooked through; drain excess fat.
Layering
  1. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
  2. Spread half of the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes.
  3. Pour half of the cream of mushroom soup over the beef.
  4. Repeat the layers: remaining potatoes, beef, and soup.
  5. Top with shredded cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  3. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best results, grease the baking dish well. You can enhance the flavor by adding garlic or herbs.
