Ingredients

For the Cheesesteak Filling
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for best texture.
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional) Optional ingredient for added flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or any cheese of your preference) Experiment with different types of cheese.
  • 4 hoagie rolls Fresh rolls work best.
  • to drizzle olive oil For cooking.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, add a drizzle of olive oil and heat over medium-high.
  2. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes until they are tender. If using, add mushrooms and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  3. Push the vegetables to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef to the pan. Break apart and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together properly for about 2 minutes.
  5. Reduce the heat to low. Place a slice of cheese over the beef mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and allow the cheese to melt, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. While the cheese is melting, slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
  7. Once the cheese has melted, spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into each roll.
  8. Optionally, toast the rolls for added texture before serving.

Notes

Serve hot with crispy baked fries or a vibrant salad. Add hot sauce or sautéed jalapeños for an extra kick! Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to 2 months.
