  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk You can use almond or coconut milk for a dairy-free option
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust based on desired sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Can add nutmeg for extra flavor
  • 1 pinch salt
For assembly
  • 1 loaf Brioche or French bread Cut into thick slices, preferably day-old bread
  • Sugar to taste for caramelizing on top
  • Butter to taste for greasing the baking dish Use unsalted butter

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Arrange the bread slices in the baking dish, overlapping them slightly.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring all slices are soaked.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for the best results.
Baking
  1. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes, until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  2. Remove from the oven and sprinkle a thin layer of sugar on top.
  3. Using a kitchen torch, caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy, golden crust.
  4. Allow to cool slightly, then serve warm.

Notes

Add a drizzle of maple syrup and top with fresh berries for a delightful presentation. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
