Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • green food coloring for festive look
  • decorative sprinkles optional

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined.
  5. Add a few drops of green food coloring and stir until you achieve your desired festive hue.
  6. Roll the dough into a rectangle about ½ inch thick on a floured surface.
  7. Cut into stick shapes (like little Christmas trees!). Place them on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden—don’t let them get too brown!
  2. Optional: Sprinkle with colored sprinkles while they’re still warm for that holiday sparkle.
  3. Allow to cool completely before devouring.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding almond extract instead of vanilla. Chill the dough for 30 minutes before rolling it out to help with shaping and prevent spreading. Swap regular butter for a vegan alternative to make these shortbread sticks vegan-friendly. Add in holiday spices like cinnamon or nutmeg for added aroma.
