Ingredients
  

For the Meatballs
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free option.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 each egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Consider adding Italian seasoning for extra flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper To taste
For Assembly
  • 1 cup marinara sauce Make sure it's gluten-free if needed.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 each hoagie rolls Toast slightly for extra crunch.
  • Fresh basil for garnish Optional but recommended for presentation.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Shape the mixture into meatballs and place them on a baking sheet.
Cooking
  1. Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes until cooked through.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat.
  3. Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce and let simmer for a few minutes.
Assembly
  1. Cut the hoagie rolls open and lay them on a baking sheet.
  2. Place meatballs in each roll and top with mozzarella cheese.
  3. Bake in the oven for an additional 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  4. Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.

Notes

For meal prep, you can freeze the meatballs and sauce separately for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven for best results. Don’t skip toasting the rolls before serving for added crunch!
