  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes work best.
  • 1 medium onion, diced Adds flavor to the beef.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese Cheddar or your choice.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken soup.
  • 1 cup milk Whole milk is recommended for creaminess.

  • Optional seasonings (garlic powder, paprika)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the beef is cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings you like.
  4. In a greased 9x13 inch casserole dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by the ground beef mixture, and half of the cheese.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, meat, and cheese.
  6. Pour the soup mixture over the casserole.
Baking
  1. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and potatoes are tender.

Notes

Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving to avoid a molten cheese disaster. Enhance your dish with fresh vegetables on the side.
